Our Story
Cindy Gifford, Owner
I began working in my mother’s child care facility in 1982 while a junior in high school. I then received my degree in Family and Child Development from Southwest Texas State University in 1989. After graduating, I spent several years working in a full-time facility when an opportunity to start the after-school programs for Lamar CISD was awarded to me in 1997. This resulted in the formation of Tiny Steps Educational Center. While directing six elementary
schools and one private school, I realized the need for a summer camp in the community.
I began designing Kid’s Resort and saw the building through completion in June of 2012. My vision included all the things that I loved as a child. There is a large gym, a large playground, a game room with arcades, science, art, and an area for students to cook. I also brought in my love for animals.
I have been blessed with four children. In 1997, we met Kristen and Patrick, and very quickly they joined our family. It didn’t take long after that, when we met a very special lady who blessed us again with the adoption of our son, Stephen. But GOD was not finished with his blessings. In 1999, Mattea was born. And as fast as I blinked my eyes, I have four grown adults.
Kristen and Patrick are both attending college. Stephen has joined the US Marines (following in his dad’s footsteps), and Mattea is attending Sam Houston with a degree in Criminal Justice. She is also hoping to follow in her dad’s footsteps and work for the FBI. Today, I spend my days spoiling my two grandsons, Lennox and Ryland.
Life has been wonderful to me! I start each day with hope and ambition to make each child feel amazing!

What is your policy regarding illness?
Kid’s Resort is not equipped to care for ill students. Per Childcare Licensing §746.3601, as well as for your child’s safety and the safety of others, we require that all sick students be picked up within 30 minutes of a parent or guardian being called. Any student who is too sick to go outside or attend school is too sick to attend our program.
If a student becomes ill while in the program, a parent or guardian will be contacted. Parents are required to pick up their child within 30 minutes and the child must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to our program.
§746.3601 is as follows: A child MAY NOT attend a child care center if
(1) The illness prevents the child from participating comfortably in child care center activities including outdoor play;
(2) The illness results in a greater need for care than caregivers can provide without compromising the health, safety, and supervision of the other children in care;
(3) The child has one of the following (unless a medical evaluation by a health-care professional indicates that you can include the child in the child-care center’s activities)
A. An axillary (armpit) temperature above 100 degrees that is accompanied by behavior changes or other signs or symptoms of illness; or
B. Symptoms and signs of possible severe illness such as lethargy, abnormal breathing, uncontrolled diarrhea, two or more vomiting episodes in 24 hours, rash with fever, mouth sores with drooling, behavior changes, or other signs that the child may be severely ill;
C. A health-care professional has diagnosed the child with a communicable disease, and the child does not have medical documentation to indicate that the child is no longer contagious.
